Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the US’ acts of hostility against Venezuela at a press conference on December 25.

Today the international community is witnessing the resurgence of piracy, assault and robbery of others’ properties, which had disappeared long ago, in the Caribbean, she said, adding that Russia resolutely denounces such moves and calls for recovering the legal order in the relevant waters.

Referring to the fact that the overwhelming majority of countries censured the US’ increase of military forces in the Caribbean and its marine blockade against Venezuela at an emergency open session of the UN Security Council on the Caribbean situation on December 23, she noted that Moscow supports the effort of the Venezuelan government to defend the country’s sovereignty and national interests.
