Rinsan white-bellied black woodpecker

It is 46cm long and weighs 330 to 360g.
Its head, neck, back, wings and tails are black and its flank, chest and belly are white. The male has red markings on its crown and cheeks. The female’s whole body is black.
It eats insects living underneath the bark and wild fruits in winter.
During April and May, it digs a hole in a hollowed tall tree, makes a net and lays three or four eggs. The female and male take turns to brood the eggs for some 20 days until they are hatched.
It is an endemic species that only lives in the DPRK.
The Rinsan white-bellied black woodpeckers inhabit some areas of Rinsan County, North Hwanghae Province.
