China applies sanctions against US

January 5, 2026

As regards the US’ announcement of a large-scale arms sale to Taiwan of China, the Chinese government issued a decision on imposing sanctions on the US munitions industry businesses and high-ranking officials that took part in it.

According to it, China will impose sanctions against 20 munitions businesses and 10 high-ranking officials of the US that were involved in arming Taiwan in recent years, pursuant to the relevant regulations of the law of the People’s Republic of China on sanctions against foreign countries.

On December 26 2025, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Taiwan issue is the core of the core interests of China and the first “red line” in the Sino-US relationship, and warned that any provocation to cross the line will be faced with China’s strong counteraction.
