KCNA commentary on neo-militarism of Japan
January 12, 2026From the outset of the new year, the present ultra-right ruling forces of Japan are adding a serious danger to the security environment in the region and the rest of the world, openly challenging the trend of the times and history.
A typical example is Japan’s attempt to push forward with the revision of the three security-related documents including the "national security strategy" within this year.
The main contents of the three documents to be amended by Japan this time will reportedly include an increase in "defense cost", the revision of the "three non-nuclear principles", lifting of restrictions on arms export and massive development of offensive military capabilities.
Through this, Japan is trying to make it a rule and national policy to evolve into a war state and an aggressor state throwing away even the mask of "pacifist state".
This is a clear revelation of the neo-militarist frenzy designed to totally deny its past bloody crimes and bring back the old imperial era at any cost through rapid rearmament.
The documents related with security including the "national security strategy", totally contrary to the international law adopted to prevent the revival of militarism after the end of the Second World War and the present Japanese constitution stipulating the waiver of belligerent rights and non-possession of combat power, are in fact far beyond the scope of "exclusive defense" and they are definitely the war strategy aimed at overseas expansion as recognized by the international community.
In actuality, the "national security strategy" the Abe regime mapped out and announced for the first time in 2013, advocating a "strong Japan", has been further modified and supplemented later with more aggressive and offensive contents, including the possession of the "capability to attack enemy bases" (capability for counterattack) legalizing a preemptive attack on other countries.
The "defense cost" has also been increased for 12 consecutive years until this year to be allotted to the improvement of the capabilities of the Self-Defense Forces for war including the development and purchase of various war means and thereby the rate of its increase has surpassed those of the world's military powers.
The present regime has made “vigorous activities” since its inauguration to realize the "cherished desire" of ultra-right political forces, including the revision of the constitution which the former regimes failed to do.
In addition, a new process schedule of the main plan for extending the operational sphere and military activities of the SDF even to outer space has been worked out and well over a hundred powder magazines are being newly built on the archipelago to cope with a prolonged war.
What should not be overlooked is that Japan is now trying to turn itself into a nuclear weapons state.
Amid the mounting nuclear frenzy among the Japanese rulers arguing that Japan should possess nuclear weapons and that no option would be excluded, the prime minister officially announced at the outset of the new year that the three security-related documents would be revised within the year. This is due to the frantic reinvasion moves of the ultra-right forces trying to drive the archipelago to neo-militarism as early as possible.
It is by no means fortuitous that even Japanese media reported it is difficult to guarantee that Japan would not follow again the fascist path in the period of militarism.
The Japanese reactionaries are wickedly trying to disrupt the regional military balance and emerge as "leader of Asia" by copying the method of the "great Japanese empire", which started overseas aggression while talking about "external threat". Their sinister intention has been brought to light.
Neo-militarism, obsessed with hatred for other nations, revanchism and ambition for conquest, started to raise its head in the period of the Abe regime and has rapidly gained strength in the present. This is the worst state of emergency in which peace and stability of the world can be disturbed and the destiny of mankind slashed.
Japan will only face total destruction through neo-militarism.
As history proves, the destination of militarism was a ruined Japan, not a "strong Japan".
