Today, when the moves of the forces trying to realize their ambition for world domination are getting ever more undisguised, maintaining independence is arising as a vital issue decisive of the destiny of all the countries and nations.

National independence is guaranteed by independent politics.

A country cannot be called an independent and sovereign state even though it has a government, if it is at another’s beck and call devoid of independence. Countries should formulate all lines and policies independently in conformity with the demand of their people and their specific situations and carry them out by relying on their people’s strength, while exercising full sovereignty in external relations. Such countries can be claimed to be genuinely independent and sovereign states.

A country which tolerates other’s interference devoid of independence in state activities cannot maintain consistency in its policies and protect its national dignity.

At present, confrontation and fight are going on in the international arena between the hegemony-seeking forces and the progressive people striving to defend their national sovereignty and dignity.

The dominationist forces persist in military threats, blackmails and interference in internal affairs of sovereign states in order to realize their ambitions for domination. And they hold in economic bondage the countries that are economically backward.

The way to protect dignity and achieve rejuvenation as an independent and sovereign state is to maintain independence, build up its own strength and settle all problems by relying on that.

It is the invariable state-building principle of the DPRK to build a powerful socialist country by its own efforts holding fast to the line of independence.

The Workers’ Party of Korea always develops independent lines and policies from the standpoint of Juche, in conformity with the actual situation of the country and in reflection of the demand of the Korean people and powerfully organizes and mobilizes the people in the implementation of them. It consistently upholds the principle of Juche in ideology, independence in politics, self-sufficiency in the economy and self-reliance in national defence.

Firmly holding fast to the independent stand, the DPRK develops friendly and cooperative relations with different countries over the world on the principle of mutual respect, noninterference, equality and mutual benefits.

Its political and ideological might, socialist self-supporting economy and inexhaustible military capabilities for self-defence constitute a reliable guarantee for defending the sovereignty and dignity of the country, advancing the revolution and construction victoriously and repulsing the aggression and interference of hostile forces.

The road of independence leads to prosperity and victory.
