The Ryongsong Machine Complex, where a flaming torch was lit to create the Chollima spirit in the new era, has turned into a modern large-scale machine-building base capable of taking the lead in promoting the independent development and technological progress of the national economy.

At the historic Eighth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un indicated the clear orientation and ways for putting the country's machine-building industry on an advanced basis. He put forward the workers of the Ryongsong Machine Complex as the vanguard of the important political struggle for proving the might of self-reliance, a proud tradition of the Korean revolution, set forth the step-wise goals and tasks for turning the complex into a standard and model of modernization in the machine-building industry and took important measures for their implementation, while energetically leading the whole course of the project.

With his great trust and expectations cherished deep in their hearts, the workers, scientists and technicians at the complex successfully completed the huge first-stage modernization project by waging a vigorous patriotic struggle, a creation struggle, under the uplifted banner of self-sustenance and self-reliance. Thus, they gained valuable experience and laid solid material and technical foundations for the development of the country's economy and fresh progress of the overall machine-building industry, and made a report of loyalty to the Central Committee of the WPK that they had completed the project.

An inauguration ceremony of the first-stage modernization project at the Ryongsong Machine Complex was held on January 19.

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, attended the inauguration ceremony.

He was greeted respectfully by Ri Jong Nam, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK, and leading officials of the complex.

When he appeared at the venue of the ceremony, all the participants paid the highest respect to him who ushered in a new era of comprehensive prosperity to be specially recorded in the history of the country by leading to a great victory the historic struggle for the brilliant implementation of the revolutionary programme set forth at the Eighth Congress of the WPK with his outstanding ideology and energetic guidance.

Present at the ceremony were senior Party and government officials and other members of the central leadership of the Party, officials in South Hamgyong Province, builders, scientists and technicians, officials of relevant fields, and officials and employees of the Ryongsong Machine Complex.

Premier of the DPRK Cabinet Pak Thae Song addressed the ceremony.

He said that thanks to the devoted efforts of the workers of the complex, builders, scientists and technicians, a precious fruit clearly showing the development and bright future of the country's machine-building industry has been produced, adding that the completion of the first-stage modernization project at the complex ahead of the Ninth Congress of the WPK is a proud success demonstrating the inexhaustible potential of the state which is achieving the comprehensive development of socialism according to the blueprint for achieving prosperity based on self-reliance unveiled by the great Party Central Committee.

He noted that Kim Jong Un named the fighting spirit of the working class of the complex, who delivered a telling blow to flunkeyism, defeatism and mysticism about technology by producing large compressors by their own efforts, the Chollima spirit in the new era, a new spirit of the times, and examined many designs and formation plans related to the remodelling of the complex one by one, energetically leading it to complete the project at a higher level while remedying the shortcomings and passivity manifested in the production line modernization plan.

Today's inauguration is the precious fruition of the wise leadership and meticulous care of Kim Jong Un who worked out a grand plan to make the Ryongsong Machine Complex a standard and model of modernization and put the overall machine-building industry on an advanced world-class level on that basis so as to guarantee the comprehensive national rejuvenation with the solid foundation of the Juche-based industry, and guided the work step by step, the premier said, and went on:

The struggle tasks facing us are difficult and huge but there is nothing impossible to do and the set goals will be attained without fail if we continue to dynamically advance in the spirit and stamina we displayed to successfully carry out the first-stage modernization project, true to the leadership of the Party Central Committee.

In his speech, he expressed gratitude to the workers of Ryongsong, teachers and researchers from Kim Chaek University of Technology and Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering, officials and builders in South Hamgyong Province and officials of relevant sectors who have attained in the lead-up to the Ninth Congress of the WPK this success of great significance in making the national economy self-supporting. Then he referred to the significance of the first-stage technological transformation of the complex, which had been pushed forward as a core policy-oriented task for the eighth term of the WPK Central Committee, and the lessons drawn from it.

The greater success is not merely that an enterprise has been modernized, but in the course of this, we have become better aware of our officials' approach to the Party's decisions and their present preparedness and dealt a telling blow to the deeply-ingrained sense of irresponsibility and self-protectionism that hinder our advance and development, he said, pointing out that completely owing to the irresponsible, slipshod and incompetent economic guidance officials, the first-stage modernization project of the Ryongsong Machine Complex encountered difficulties and incurred not a little amount of economic loss, experiencing unnecessary man-made confusions.

He stressed that the Party has come to make a clear-cut determination that the present economic guidance forces can hardly guide the work of readjusting the country's industry as a whole and upgrading it technologically, and that breaking with old practices of pinning hope on those who have too long been accustomed to defeatism, irresponsibility and passiveness will be a new starting point for future pioneering and development.

Noting that the reality of the country advancing toward rejuvenation and prosperity demands the powerful pioneers and genuine fighters, who can be accountable to today and bring the future earlier, he ardently called upon all the leading cadres and producers to build a modernized and advanced economy capable of firmly guaranteeing the country's future without fail in the present generation based on purposeful designs and scientific methodology, bearing deep in their minds the essence and demands of the Party's modernization policy once again on this occasion.

All the participants in the inauguration ceremony expressed their full support to the speech of Kim Jong Un, full of noble sense of mission and responsibility for the prosperity of the country and the promotion of the people's wellbeing, and their unshakable will to devotedly defend the Party Central Committee and carry out the Party’s policies.

Noting that the complex has made a big stride in putting the machine-building industry on a modern and advanced basis, he said another valuable asset has been produced to creditably consolidate the foundation of the self-supporting economy.

Today's era, when the overall national economy has been put on a track of stable growth and the great cause of regional development is increasingly accelerating, demands quality machines and equipment more than ever before, he said, urging the machine-building industry sector to direct proactive efforts to producing efficient machine products and push ahead with sci-tech research and talented manpower reinforcement without letup for updating machines and equipment and enhancing their quality.

He set the next-stage modernization goal to be attained by the complex and advanced detailed tasks to be fulfilled to strongly propel the undertaking for putting the overall machine-building industry on a fresh advanced basis.

Saying that he is very attached to the complex pulsating with the spirit of creation and rapid progress, he expressed expectations and belief that the workers of the complex would redouble their revolutionary enthusiasm and self-confidence as befitting the creators of the Chollima spirit in the new era and thus go all out for attaining the second-stage goal with the successes made in the first-stage modernization as a powerful springboard.

Encouraged by his great love and trust, the workers of the complex hardened their resolve to firmly preserve and glorify the proud tradition of upholding the Party, state and socialist system with a great revolutionary upsurge in each period of the revolution and continue to exalt the honour of the complex as a model of self-reliance and a powerful enterprise.

The successful completion of the first-stage modernization project at the Ryongsong Machine Complex is a significant occasion as it clearly demonstrated the spirit of the state advancing vigorously and confidently to attain the grand goal and ideal of socialist construction on the great strength of self-reliance.
