Over the past five years since the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, a new era of overall development has been ushered in, bringing about changes to the capital and the provinces simultaneously.

Rural revolution programme in new era

The Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK, held in December 2021, set forth the programme for the rural revolution in the new era.

The basic purpose and main content of the programme is to ultimately settle the question of farmers and agriculture and thereby eliminate the gaps between the working class and farmers and between urban and rural areas and build the people’s ideal society of socialism and communism.

The programme comprehensively and concretely clarifies the guidelines that should be followed in putting the country’s agriculture on a definite upward stage and effecting drastic development of Korean-style socialist countryside under the slogan “Towards a new victory in socialist rural construction!”

The targets to be achieved in Korean-style rural development are to raise the level of ideological consciousness of agricultural workers, rapidly develop the agricultural productive forces and radically change the living environment in the countryside.

Only when the level of consciousness of the agricultural workers, masters of the rural revolution, is improved, can they play a pivotal and leading role in implementing the rural revolution programme in the new era and make a positive contribution to further developing the socialist countryside.

And only when agricultural production increases, is it possible to provide the people with a stable and affluent material and cultural life, step up the rapid development of the overall national economy and turn the rural communities into rich and thriving ideal ones.

The programme specifies the issues of radically boosting agricultural productivity.

Making all rural villages of the country rich and civilized ideal socialist ones constitutes an important part of the rural revolution programme in the new era.

Under the Party’s leadership to decisively change the appearance and environment of the rural areas, cement needed for rural construction is being preferentially supplied to all cities and counties, the construction of rural dwelling houses carried out before anything else and the guidance system of the Party and state over rural construction firmly established.

After setting forth the rural revolution programme in the new era, the Party took measures to implement it at the sixth and seventh plenary meetings of the Eighth Party Central Committee and other important meetings.

Preparing farmers as masters of rural revolution

The trust and love shown by the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un for agricultural workers have been the precious nourishment and inexhaustible source of energy for training them to be rural revolutionaries and genuine patriotic farmers supporting the country with cereal production.

In the letter he sent to the participants in the Ninth Congress of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea, he said that the agricultural workers of the country are loyal and patriotic working people who have firmly defended the rural position of the revolution and supported the Party and the revolution with their cereal production while always being of one mind with the Party and throwing in their lot with socialism. And he highly praised them, saying that in the course of the victorious struggle of the Party and people through which they ushered in a new heyday of bolstering up national power amid the worst-ever ordeals, agricultural workers achieved the proud success of increasing agricultural production almost every year by devoting their all in the major thrust area of socialist construction, regarding the Party’s worries and the country’s difficulties as their own.

He met meritorious labour innovators in the agricultural sector to have a photo session with them and arrange a grand banquet for them at the yard of the Party Central Committee. At a plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee he courteously proposed extending thanks in the name of the Party Central Committee to the exemplary officials, workers, scientists and technicians in the agricultural sector, who actively contributed to gathering good crop despite the unfavourable conditions, and took special measures.

Thanks to his boundless loving care and trust, agricultural workers are growing up into patriotic farmers with the confidence and will to bring about rejuvenation by their own efforts without fail on the strength of their burning love for the country and into reliable workers in charge of the implementation of the rural revolution programme in the new era.

Even once unknown farms in the remote mountains produce solid, patriotic farmers reaping amazingly heavy crops by putting an end to the old concept that high-yielding farmers can be produced only in the flat areas.

Everywhere you can see the agricultural workers who have grown to be intelligent working people and masters of new civilization who do farming by relying on science and technology and create a beautiful life while conducting various cultural and leisure activities.

As it has become a new mode and way of life in the countryside for every agricultural worker to study and research to acquire knowledge and technical skills, farming is being definitely turned into scientific one and farmers have become intelligent workers.

Modern sci-tech diffusion bases have been built and advanced farming methods and agrotechnical products introduced in the rural communities.

The new looks of agricultural workers clearly demonstrate the validity and vitality of the rural revolution programme in the new era.
