Winners of individual prizes at 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup
January 21, 2026The DPRK players won the Golden Ball, Adidas Golden Boot, Silver Ball and Adidas Silver Boot at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The winners of the four individual prizes are Yu Jong Hyang and Kim Won Sim.
Yu Jong Hyang, winner of two golden prizes
Yu Jong Hyang, the winner of the Golden Ball and Adidas Golden Boot, is a footballer of the April 25 Sports Team.
She started to learn football at an extracurricular sports school in Phyongsong City and honed her basic skills at the Pyongyang International Football School. Later she fully displayed her potential while acting as a player of the sports team.
She scored five goals in the EAFF U-15 Women’s Championship 2024. The DPRK team scored 11 goals at the competition.
She was selected as the best player in the three matches of the recent world cup and made eight goals as a forward, thus contributing greatly to her team’s victory.
In particular, she scored the first goal in her team’s first group league match with the Mexican team, thus making a breakthrough for her team’s victory. She scored two goals in the semi-final with the Brazilian team, thus making a decisive contribution to her team’s advance to the final.
“I think Won Sim is better than me. She is a better player than me,” Yu answered to a question put by journalists about who is better between her and Kim Won Sim.
Kim Won Sim, winner of Silver Ball and Adidas Silver Boot
Kim Won Sim started learning football at Ryonggang County extracurricular sports school.
Later, she entered Pyongyang International Football School and trained hard.
She made three goals at the EAFF U-15 Women’s Championship 2024 to contribute to her team’s victory.
She also scored seven goals at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, thus being awarded the Silver Ball and Adidas Silver Boot.
She scored a goal with a skilful header in the 8th minute in the stoppage time of the second half of her team’s group league match with the Cameroonian rival with the score being at 1 to 1, thus making a decisive contribution to the victory of her team.
In particular, she scored the first goal in the quarterfinal match with the Japanese in 38 seconds after the kickoff, the fastest goal of the tournament.
