Russia decided to deport a diplomat of the British embassy in the country.

On January 15, the Russian Foreign Ministry called the charge d'affaires ad interim of the British embassy to notify him that relevant agencies of Russia had obtained the information that the British diplomat belongs to a special agency.

It demanded that the diplomat leave the Russian Federation within two weeks.

The Russian government would not allow secret agents of the British special agency to be active in Russia’s territory and such an uncompromising line would be pursued in the security interests of the state in the future, too, it stressed.

And it warned that Russia would take a resolute countermeasure if the UK aggravates the situation.
