European countries resist US’ tariff threat

January 24, 2026

European countries are strongly resisting the US’ threat to impose from February 1 10 percent tariff on those countries which do not follow its plan to annex Greenland.

On January 17 the French president said that the US’ threat to impose tariffs with regard to Greenland is intolerable and stressed that if it is carried out, Europeans will cope with it by dint of unity and cooperation.

The Swedish prime minister resolutely rejected the US’ tariff threat and the British prime minister said it is entirely wrong for the US to impose tariffs on the NATO allies while advocating their "collective security".

Foreign media outlets say that it would not be easy to check the US’ ferocious ambition for territorial seizure, no matter how much European countries talk about "alliance" in order not to lose Greenland.
