Germany resists US’ tariff pressure
January 27, 2026The German prime minister at a press conference on January 19 resisted the US’ tariff pressure in relation to the Greenland issue.
The US’ threat to impose tariff on the countries which do not follow the Greenland annexation plan would weaken transatlantic relations, he said, warning about the risk of escalating tension.
Though US consumers would pay for the tariff imposition at last, it would also damage the German economy, he decried.
A spokesman for the German government also branded the US’ tariff imposition measure as intolerable and stressed that the EU would counter it with retaliatory tariffs.
