Schoolchildren enjoy winter vacation
January 28, 2026Schoolchildren’s winter vacation is now at its height.
Their routines during the vacation are very diverse, and yet priority is given to studying.
During the period, they review lessons and prepare to take lessons in groups of several schoolchildren as they generally want to improve their knowledge of the subjects at which they are poor or intensify the study of their favourite subjects.
Kye Song Ryong, pupil of Kinmaul Primary School in Moranbong District, Pyongyang, said she likes studying with her classmates as it enables her to further consolidate what she learned through discussion and debate. Ri In Ae, teacher in charge of Kye’s class, said that the pupils’ active discussion and debate during their review of lessons in groups have a positive influence on the improvement of their cognitive abilities.
During the vacation, the extracurricular groups of schools, schoolchildren’s palaces and halls, sci-tech learning bases and cultural and leisure centres are more actively operated.
Schoolchildren competitively attend various groups such as those of mathematics, physics, literature, vocal music, piano, kayagum, fine art, Taekwon-Do and football.
On the other hand, many others visit the children’s dream hall in the Sci-Tech Complex to grasp scientific principles of the phenomena they face in life or visit the Natural History Museum to experience the mysteries of nature.
Conspicuous are also the scenes of schoolchildren playing folk games such as kite flying, top spinning, shuttlecock game and rope skipping at parks or skating and sledging on ice rinks until late at night, laughing boisterously.
Meanwhile, parents take their children to the Masikryong Ski Resort, Mirim Riding Club and other cultural and leisure centres to have a good time and encourage the children to do good things for the collective, society and country.
Every parent wants to make an effective use of the vacation for the education of their children.
Pak Song Ok, a resident in Phyongchon District of Pyongyang, said that the education of children is an important issue related to the future of their own and that of their families and of the country. During the current vacation she visited grand socialist construction sites together with her daughter to give aid materials to the builders and sing songs for them, she said, adding that on the evening of such day, she was really gratified to see the daughter writing several pages in her diary.
