Chinese representative to UN urges Japan to reflect on its history

February 2, 2026

The Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations at a meeting of the UN Security Council on January 26 demanded Japan reflect on and rectify the sophistry related to Taiwan.

He accused Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi of having recently sent a wrong signal that she could interfere in the Taiwan issue by force of arms and refused to withdraw it.

The Japanese prime minister’s reckless remarks mean abandoning the international obligation that Japan, a defeated nation, must fulfill without fail and openly challenging the international legal order, he said, adding that China strongly demands Japan have a correct understanding of its history and reflect on and correct its mistakes.
