The founding of the Korean People’s Army on February 8 1948 was an event that proclaimed the birth of the revolutionary armed forces firmly defending the dignity and honour of the DPRK and its people.

Thanks to this historic event, the revolutionary armed forces could begin writing the history of reliably guaranteeing the ideology and cause of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the existence and development of the country and the happiness of the people.

The KPA is the revolutionary armed forces firmly defending the dignity and sovereignty of the country against the hostile forces' moves for aggression.

It has resolutely foiled all manner of challenges and threats by the hostile forces wherever the sovereignty of the country is exercised, reliably defending the front line of the country.

This can be denied or done by no one in the present world where it is an everyday occurrence that national sovereignty and territory are mercilessly violated and bloodshed takes place due to the imperialists' policy of supremacy and violent moves of aggression.

The KPA is the creator of transformation and the defender of happiness which brings happiness to the people, regarding devoted service for them as its duty.

Since the beginning of the postwar reconstruction in the 1950s when everything had been destroyed in the country, the building of a prosperous country has also been the army’s primary revolutionary task, as important as defending the sovereignty of the country, and this task has never been lightened or deferred in any harsh and severe circumstances.

The metallurgical-industry bases and coal and ore mines, which constitute the foundation of the national economy, the railways and roads, which constitute the artery of the country, and the fertile farm fields, irrigation facilities and reclaimed tidelands—all the projects for development and creation carried out throughout the country are associated with the exploits of the army.

This is not all.

KPA service personnel have been forerunners in performing great feats who have made breakthroughs at any time and in any place, including those who, with a sacred mission of defending the people, successfully carried out the operations to save the lives of the people isolated by flood and transformed the afflicted areas.

The beautiful dreams and ideals of the people keep coming true as the KPA’s honourable colours keep vigorously fluttering throughout the country, calling for a fresh upswing.

The ideas and leadership of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un are the source of the mightiness of the revolutionary armed forces.

The General Secretary set forth the militant tasks of the KPA at major meetings including the plenary meetings of the Party Central Committee and energetically led the struggle to carry them out. He visited the Ministry of National Defence on the occasion of the Day of Army Founding to indicate the road ahead of the KPA, personally attended the meetings of the entire army to lay down the guidelines for making the revolutionary armed forces the most elite and powerful ones and guided the drills under the simulated conditions of an actual war on the spot to instil matchless strength and courage into the service personnel.

Korean-style socialism will advance steadily thanks to the KPA which is firmly defending the peace and happiness of the country and the people, regarding the General Secretary’s leadership as its lifeblood.
