As he looked round the newly-built regional-industry factories and leisure complex in Kangdong County in December last year, the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un said that the beneficiaries and enjoyers of the regional development policy in the new era are none other than the regional people, stressing the need to invariably preserve and add lustre to the original features of Korean-style socialism where the policies of the Workers’ Party of Korea are worked out for the people and the people enjoy happiness to their heart’s content thanks to the Party’s policies.

All the policies the WPK plans and enforces are the people-oriented policies that find their way to the people before they wait for them and wherever they live and provide them with not only what they have desired but also what they have never imagined.

They include the regional development policy, the public health development policy, the construction policy, the childcare policy, the rural development policy, the policy on the care of the aged, the education policy and others.

All these policies were adopted with the will and desire of the people as the main contents and ideas.

The new regional development policy and the rural development policy reflect the desire of the regional people to enjoy like city dwellers a rich and cultured life in the new wonderful houses even in remote mountain villages and coastal villages. And the childcare policy was instituted as the most important policy to satisfy the desires of the mothers of the country to bring up their children healthily by feeding them on dairy products and nutritious foods to their heart’s content.

The WPK administers the politics of love and affection for the people with the sacred appellation of people engraved on its policies because it regards the spirit of serving the people as its lifeblood.

It is the principle the WPK upholds to take into account whether it can provide the people with convenience substantially whenever it designs a project and carry it out after examining whether it correctly reflects the people’s will and demands whenever it unveils a plan for creation and construction.

Therefore, though it has been faced with the manifold trials and difficulties which are more serious than ever before during the term of the Eighth Party Central Committee, it put it forward as an important policy task to solve the housing problem of the citizens of the capital city of Pyongyang and has ensured that 10 000 modern houses are built every year without fail, 50 000 flats in total, and provided the people with them free of charge.

Though there are many sectors to which importance should be attached in the struggle for the comprehensive development of socialism, it has become a consistent policy of the DPRK to provide students with new smart uniforms and top priority has been given to the undertakings for all the students and children of the country, with enormous funds being directed to them.

As a result, uniforms, shoes and satchels according to different types of schools were supplied to new pupils and students across the country at once and Haebaragi- and Turumi-brand school things, Mindulle-brand notebooks and nutritious foods were provided to all infants and primary school pupils in all parts of the country from the capital city to rural areas, the remote mountain villages in the northern highlands and out-of-the-way island villages, touching the heart of their parents.

As they are led by the respected General Secretary, who always sees and thinks everything from the viewpoint and with the attitude of the people, all the state and Party policies reflect the people’s desires and are being translated into reality without fail.

The Thirteenth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth WPK Central Committee held in December last year announced the plan to transform the newly organized or most backward farms among farms on the reclaimed tideland on the west coast into modern and civilized ones symbolizing the new changes of rural development, assigned the task of waging an additional campaign for transforming the coal mining areas, while various projects are being undertaken in several directions at an exponential speed to eliminate the gap between towns and rural areas, and decided on the projects for the regional development policy to be carried out in another 20 cities and counties.

The thrilling reality in which many policies for the people are adopted and every one of them becomes a perfect entity strengthens the people's confidence and optimism about the future as well as their belief that the WPK’s policy directly leads to practice.
