Chinese FM warns Japan against repeating past mistake
February 21, 2026Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned Japan against its moves to revive militarism in Munich, Germany, on February 14.
Stressing the need to increase vigilance against the dangerous moves taking place in Japan these days, he said that the incumbent Japanese prime minister’s open remark that “contingency in Taiwan” constitutes a critical situation for Japan to exercise the “right to collective self-defence" represents a direct challenge to the national sovereignty of China.
China cannot tolerate the remark and the 1.4 billion Chinese people will never tolerate it, he stated.
Unlike Germany, Japan keeps the name tablets of class A war criminals in the Yasukuni Shrine until today, and its leading political figures continue to visit it to worship and praise them as “souls of the departed war heroes”, he denounced.
Saying the improper remark made by the Japanese prime minister as regards the Taiwan issue reveals that Japan still harbours the ambition to invade and colonize Taiwan and that there still remains a hangover from its militaristic era, he asserted that Japan invaded China and attacked the US’ Pearl Harbor on the pretext of “critical situation” and urged it to draw a lesson from the failure of the former generations.
