Pride and happiness of Korean women
March 8, 2026This year marks the 116th anniversary of March 8 International Women’s Day.
In the DPRK, people celebrate March 8 International Women’s Day as a significant holiday, hoping the beautiful life of women who devote their persevering efforts and sincerity to society, families and rising generations will shine with honour and happiness.
On the holiday the whole country is in a festive mood as there take place national congratulatory events and colourful sports and amusement games of women and catering and other service facilities offer special services for women.
An official of the Central Committee of the Socialist Women’s Union of Korea said with pride that the Korean women are now regarded as a powerful force pushing one of the two wheels of the revolutionary chariot with genuine dignity and rights.
The Korean women, who had previously been subjected to double and triple exploitation and oppression owing to the military occupation by the Japanese imperialists and feudal fetters, came to have the same rights and freedom as social beings as men. This was not a change brought about by the passage of time.
President
Since the dramatic change in their destiny, the Korean women have become not only masters of society but also objects of respect and love and of all social benefits along with the prosperity and development of the country and the advance of the socialist cause.
Under the loving care of the Workers’ Party of Korea, which appreciates and values more highly what women have done, many women have enjoyed great fame, being held in respect by all people as heroines, holders of academic degrees and titles and honorary titles and meritorious persons of socialist patriotism, and the number such women is increasing with the passage of time.
Besides, the state adopts more measures and policies to take better care of women’s health and provide them with more convenient working conditions.
In recent years alone, there were adopted the law on childcare, which legalizes supplying the children of nurseries and kindergartens with dairy products and other nutritious foods at the state’s expense every day without interruption, and the law on preferential treatment of families with many children to provide all living conditions to the families with more than three children on a preferential basis. And the socialist policy for the state to provide complete sets of school uniforms and school things to the students has further improved, thus making women raise their children free from worries.
