Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone called for developing agriculture by relying on their own efforts in a speech at a recent meeting.

Primary efforts should be channelled into ensuring food security by increasing agricultural production, he said, adding that to do so, agriculture should be modernized and their own sci-tech forces be strengthened.

He stressed the need for the agricultural sector to take measures to cope with climate change and natural calamities while decreasing the dependence on the import of farming materials including fertilizer and insecticide, and increasing production at home.
