Afforestation gets brisk
March 14, 2026The afforestation work is being carried on positively throughout the country.
In order to turn all the mountains of the country into useful “gold and treasure mountains” contributing to economic development and the improvement of the people’s living standards, many units are pushing ahead with the creation of timber forests, forests of oil-bearing and wild fruit trees and forests for producing raw materials for paper according to long-term plans.
The tree nurseries and forestry management stations across the country have positively introduced advanced science and technology to increase the survival rate of trees, while producing larger numbers of saplings of good species and high utility value.
North Hamgyong Province surveyed and identified the forest areas in cities and counties which were fixed as forests of economic value and is supplying tree saplings in time to different regions including Yonsa and Myonggan counties.
North Hwanghae Province has introduced advanced cultivation techniques according to species and growth stage, promoted production at parent tree nurseries and tree nurseries between forests, and scientifically and technically manured and tended the planted trees to raise the rooting rate of trees.
The province has channelled big efforts into the sufficient supply of raw materials of wild fruits necessary for normal production at regional-industry factories, thereby creating tens of thousands of hectares of forests of pine-nut, chestnut and oak trees.
The Sinchon County Forestry Management Station in South Hwanghae Province annually harvests a large quantity of wild fruits every year, including the fruits of Crataegus pinnatifida and aronia, chestnut and acorn.
Last year, Ryanggang Province newly created 700 hectares of pine-nut forests for the supply of raw materials for regional-industry factories.
Ichon County of Kangwon Province directed great efforts to the production of saplings for creating forests of economic value, while increasing the production capacities of parent tree nurseries, putting sapling production on a higher scientific and intensive level and actively introducing advanced sapling production methods.
North Phyongan Province has achieved success in research into raising the rooting rate of trees by using phytosine and into the method of growing saplings of a new tree variety, while improving the scientific level of afforestation.
