The inauguration ceremony of the fourth-stage 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area was held with splendour on February 16 to round off the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang, which had been dynamically pushed ahead as the most important task for implementing the decisions of the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

As a result, during the term of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK, nearly 60 000 flats and public buildings were built magnificently in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, epitomizing the advanced civilization and, in particular, a whole modern city administrative district was formed in the Hwasong area.

What is noteworthy is that each stage of the housing construction in the Hwasong area was modern and original, and everything was oriented to constantly exploring and breaking new ground.

The first-stage 10 000 flats in the area were built as a modern street with a symbolic twin-tower building and other buildings capped with different forms of roof like horn- and wing-shaped ones. And Rimhung Street which was established with the construction of the second-stage 10 000 flats in the area was built in a site-saving mode of urban formation by concentrating modern high-rise apartment houses and skyscrapers in a small area, thus offering a clear colour contrast and linking the low-floor service facilities of the buildings to give a three-dimensional effect to the whole street.

The third-stage area embodies renewed modernity and characteristics of the era as symbolic buildings and high-rise apartment houses are concentrated in the centre of the avenue and their colour contrast is consistent with the first- and second-stage buildings.

In particular, various kinds of modern service networks, including commercial and public catering facilities with strong symbolic character and technical and recreational service facilities, highlight the distinctive features and development level of the district.

New and distinctive bases for cultural activities and educational, public health, commercial and public service facilities have been added to the Hwasong area each year.

The great change of today in the Hwasong area, which was a wide plain until a few years ago, is entirely a result of the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

He regarded the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang for solving the housing problem of the citizens as his long-cherished desire and made tireless and devoted efforts to complete it.

He gave guidance on thousands of architectural designs from the first-stage project to the fourth-stage one in order to provide the people with excellent new streets which would be flawless even after 50 or 100 years. And he took part in every ground-breaking ceremony to encourage the builders.

Thanks to the energetic leadership of the respected General Secretary who pushed ahead with the housing construction for the people uninterruptedly and persistently despite severe conditions and difficulties, magnificent new streets rose up in the Hwasong area year after year.
