Scheme to ease arms export ban opposed in Japan

March 24, 2026

Objections to the authorities' scheme to relax the ban on arms export are being voiced in Japan.

An opinion poll was recently conducted in the country as regards the fact that the Liberal Democratic Party and Restoration Party of Japan, forming the ruling coalition, submitted to the authorities a proposal for loosening the ban on arms export and approving the export of lethal weapons.

The scheme was opposed by 48.2% of the respondents as they regarded it as unlawful.

The rate is reportedly overwhelmingly higher than those of approval and abstention.

The Japanese citizens are concerned that the authorities' attempt to ease the arms export ban might bring another disaster to their country.
