Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, oversaw a static firing test of high-thrust solid-fuel engine using the composite carbon fibre material.

The maximum thrust of the newly upgraded solid-fuel engine is 2 500kN and the test is part of the national defence development plan in the new five-year period which set the steady upgrading of strategic strike means as a major goal.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un was accompanied by Jo Chun Ryong, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK.

He referred to the strategic significance of the upgraded engine's test.

He said that the test of great significance in putting the country's strategic military muscle on the highest level fully conforms with the national strategy on the modernization of strategic forces and the relevant military demand.

He affirmed that the development trend of the DPRK's defence capabilities, which has already entered a significant phase of change in the building of the strategic forces, would be further promoted and accelerated by the development and introduction of better components with superior economic and technical effectiveness as those proven in the test.

He referred to the major tasks for further stepping up the development of the national strategic forces both in quality and quantity.

Present at the test were Kim Jong Sik, first deputy department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, Jang Chang Ha, director general of the Missile Administration of the DPRK, officials of the Missile Administration and the missile research sector and scientists, technicians and officials of the relevant sector including the Institute of Solid-fuel Engine and the Missile Engine Production Factory.
