Deputy chief of Russian Security Council refers to biological security
April 16, 2026Dmitri Medvedev, vice-chairman of the Security Council of Russia, made remarks at a meeting of the inter-institutional committee of the council for tackling the modern biological security threat on April 9.
Referring to the need to continue the work to achieve the country’s technological independence in the field of biological security, he said it is important to systematically monitor the spread of epidemics and prevent dangerous communicable diseases from making inroads into Russia.
Nipah virus recently made the world astir, but the problem is not confined to that, he said, asserting that the biggest threat at present is coming from the biological laboratories of the West in the Ukrainian territory.
Pieces of evidence that components of biological weapons were produced in those labs have been discovered in the course of the special military operations, he noted, stating that such adventurist acts are extremely serious for Russia’s security and are never pardonable.
Russia has a reliable system for coping with the threats related to biological terrorism and its government will keep taking measures to ensure the country’s biological security, he stressed.
