Teqball competition held as part of national sports festival

April 22, 2026

A teqball competition of the 2026 Spring National Sports Festival took place at the Pyongyang Municipal Sports Village.

It was held in several categories, but the most spectacular was the doubles.

In particular, the men’s doubles semifinal match between Kim Il Guk and Kim Chang Bom of the Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Complex team and Jo Jun Min and Cha Yon Ryong of the Rimyongsu team was very fierce.

Kim Il Guk was the runner-up in the men’s singles and Jo Jun Min and Cha Yon Ryong took the third place in the men’s doubles at the 2025 teqball championships.

It was an intense match from start to end as the players had high physical and technical abilities and the score maintained a narrow margin until they reached the closing of the first round.

At the point of 11-11 tie, Rimyongsu’s Cha Yon Ryong attempted sharp attack with a back somersault swing kick in order to finish the round.

But the opposing team coolly received the low and fast ball with a correct judgment, positioning and good combination, tossed it and attacked with a powerful swing kick to finish the round in their victory.

To make up for their loss in the first round, Jo Jun Min and Cha Yon Ryong did their best in the second round but finally gave way to Kim Il Guk and Kim Chang Bom to advance to the final.

The two Kims confronted Kwak Phyong Il and Choe Il Hong of the Ministry of Light Industry team.

Kwak Phyong Il won medals in several categories at the 2025 teqball championships.

Kwak’s pair put pressure on the rivals with vigorous manoeuvres. They tried to take the lead in both attack and defence by taking advantage of their taller stature.

Kim’s pair responded with their high ball control ability on the table and various scoring techniques combining powerful smashes with back somersault swing kicks and light strokes according to circumstances.

The technical movements of the players of both teams were acclaimed by the spectators.

After three rounds of seesaw battle, Kim’s pair beat their rivals 2-1 and won the trophy.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Light Industry team took the first place in the women’s doubles.
