The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea sent a congratulatory message to the participants in the Eleventh Congress of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League and all other youths across the country on April 28.

The message said that through its eleventh congress, the youth league, the ranks of successors loyal to the leadership of the Party, is going to review its proud course of implementing the Party's line and policies in the past five years and make a new milestone in its struggle and advance aimed to carry out the decisions of the Ninth WPK Congress.

The past five years, when new miracles and bold innovations were brought about under the leadership of the Party Central Committee to glorify the immortal appellation of patriotic youth, were worthwhile and glorious years that witnessed an unprecedented heyday in the 80-year history of the youth league under the leadership of the Party, the message said, and went on:

The young people have always taken an active part and played a courageous role in implementing the most important and difficult tasks of the struggle for historic transformation organized and waged by the Party, and the flag of the youth league fluttered in the sites of gigantic struggle for building monumental edifices of the times, the workplaces pulsating with the spirit of leap forward. 

The young service personnel displayed the revolutionary spirit of executing the order of the Party and the extraordinary creative traits in the course of their honourable service to firmly defend national sovereignty and peace and increase the people's wealth and the sound of their laughter. These serve as a source of great strength that inspires all the people, especially young men and women, across the country to give steady play to their ideological and spiritual power and fighting capacity. 

In particular, the young soldiers involved in the overseas military operations became bombs and flames for annihilating enemies to defend the honour of the country, clearly demonstrated to the whole world the heroism and indomitable mettle of the Korean youth, who grew up under the care of the Party, and raised the mass heroism of the Korean people to a new level. 

The fervent patriotic spirit and mettle of the youth, who are demonstrating the mightiness and dignity of the state and injecting boundless vitality into the struggle for its overall prosperity, have been fully manifested in the grand political and cultural festivals and the revolutionary mass movements for promoting economic construction and the improvement of the people's standard of living, the communist traits of helping and leading one another forward in difficult times and the admirable images of those sportspersons flying the flag of the DPRK in the international arena.

The young people in the new era have linked their precious youthful days to the cause of the Party and the state, registered on their personal accounts of youth their strenuous efforts for loyalty and patriotism and performed feats and created praiseworthy episodes to be written in the application for their accession to the Party. Their worthwhile struggle is recorded as a new page in the history of the youth movement along with the honourable Order of Kim Jong Il shining on the flag of the youth league. 

Now that the Party and revolution are facing new struggle tasks and starting to implement them, the Party's expectations for the youth and youth league organizations across the country are very great, the message stressed, and continued:

The present era requires the youth league to invariably demonstrate its reputation as the vanguard of patriotism in the historic advance to lead the successes of having opened up a new era of upsurge for national development to a greater result.

The main task facing the youth league at present is to concentrate efforts on steadily giving fuller play to the revolutionary spirit and patriotic enthusiasm of the young people so that the organizations and members of the youth league at all levels can play an active role in the van in carrying out the new five-year plan, thus making the next five years an era of more powerfully vitalizing the Korean youth movement.

The youth league should direct all its efforts to educating and training all the young people to be ardent patriots who set it as their lifelong aim to realize the Party's ideal and find the worth and happiness of youth in attaining it. 

It should inspire the youths to keep in their hearts the strong and pure spirit of the young people of the preceding generations, who laid the foundations for national prosperity with valuable feats in their youthful days, and of the war martyrs of the overseas operations units who devoted their youth to the implementation of the order of the Party and the country, thus making all the young people in our era unanimously desire to lead the same patriotic and heroic life as theirs. 

Always mindful of the developing reality and the changes in consciousness of the new generations, the youth league organizations should make positive improvements in the forms and methods of education in conformity with the features of youth education that require freshness, flexibility, diversity and concreteness so as to make education on every occasion serve as real political work that touches the heartstrings of the youths. 

All the members of the youth league should devote their youth to implementing the decisions of the Party Congress with the ambition and will to become masters of the worthwhile and stirring era, thus opening up a route of charge and performing feats that excite the whole country.

The spiritual and moral growth of young people is one of the important goals the WPK intends to attain in the struggle of a new stage for building a powerful socialist country. 

The youth league should encourage the Korean youth to steadily give full play to their ideological, spiritual and moral superiority by placing the moral training of young people high on its agenda and intensifying education and control to make its members possess a correct outlook on morality. 

The steel-like fighting efficiency of the youth league is part of the national power, and only when the youth league intensifies the organizational life, can it guarantee such efficiency and remain faithful to its historic mission.

It is needed to establish a voluntary way of observing discipline in the youth league and continue to improve the method of guidance so that its organizational life can be a good process of growth enabling its members to understand the value and might of the collective and consolidate their revolutionary outlook on life. 

The youth league should concentrate its guidance on enhancing the role of the Korean Children's Union organizations in conformity with the actual conditions in which its ranks have expanded, so as to prepare all the KCU members across the country to become reliable future pillars who love the country and value their organizations and the collective. 

The surging ideological and moral spirit and vigorous role of the ranks of youths who are aware of their solemn mission are an important guarantee for making the Party's metabolism and the state's handing down of its spirit to posterity continue pure-heartedly and without fail despite the change of generations. 

In the message the WPK Central Committee expressed firm belief that the SPYL would more powerfully demonstrate its dignity and fighting efficiency as a youth organization of the Party, with the congress as a watershed, and creditably discharge the sacred duty assigned by the country and revolution, the times and history in the struggle for a new phase of transformation.
