A national meeting took place at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang on May 1 in commemoration of the 136th May Day, the international holiday of the working people all over the world.

It was attended by Pak Thae Song, Ri Il Hwan, An Kum Chol and other senior officials of the Party and the government, officials of ministries, national agencies and the institutions and industrial establishments in Pyongyang.

Present there at invitation were members of the foreign diplomatic missions in Pyongyang and home-visiting overseas Koreans.

Pak Thae Song, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, delivered a report.

Upon authorization of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the government of the DPRK, he extended warm congratulations to the working class, agricultural workers, intellectuals and other working people across the country celebrating May Day.

It is a source of great pride and honour of the working people of Juche Korea to dynamically strive for the prosperity and development of the socialist country, faithfully upholding the ideas and leadership of the great Workers' Party of Korea, he said.

He referred to the fact that the great dignity and honour of the Korean working people and their original features of loyalty and patriotism which have been steadily carried forward generation after generation and decade after decade, have reached the noblest stage in the glorious era when the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un has been held in high esteem, the new era of comprehensive development.

The noble mentality and revolutionary spirit of the Korean working people faithfully supporting the Party and the country were fully displayed in the years of pioneering the era of comprehensive development of socialism, he said.

The proud reality of today, in which the courageous spirit of socialist Korea and the potentiality of its self-supporting economy are being clearly demonstrated despite manifold difficulties, is the brilliant fruit of the outstanding leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, he noted.

He stressed the need for all the working people to deeply cherish the idea and spirit of the historic Ninth Congress of the WPK and give full play to the stamina and mettle of the heroic Korean working people once again in the general advance for carrying out the new five-year plan.

The DPRK government will as ever make responsible efforts to defend the rights and interests of the working masses, regarding the WPK's ideal of the people-first principle as the invariable guidelines, and successfully fulfil its mission and role in building a new world, just and peaceful, he stated.

The premier called on all the people to make more strenuous efforts for the prosperity of the beloved country and the victorious advance of the socialist cause, following the road of victory led by the great Party Central Committee.

The national meeting ended with the playing of the song "Internationale".
