China condemns Yasukuni Shrine visit in Japan

May 3, 2026

A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry denounced the Japanese reactionaries for their visit to the Yasukuni Shrine at a press conference on April 28.

He branded it as an act of trampling on the justice of history and the conscience of mankind and a challenge to the gains of the Second World War and the post-war international order.

Describing the shrine as a spiritual tool and symbol of the war of aggression started by Japanese militarism and a "shrine dedicated to war criminals", he said that some politicians and right-wing forces of Japan are trying to reverse the judgment on the history of aggression, nullify its war crimes and invoke the ghost of militarism while frequently visiting the shrine today after a lapse of 80 years.

The Chinese and peoples of all other countries which had been invaded by the Japanese army in the past and all peace-loving forces of justice in the world will never tolerate their attempt, he stressed.

He also urged the international community to keep highly vigilant against "neo-militarism", as it will surely bring disaster and harm the regional peace, and to deal it a telling blow.
