Dmitri Medvedev, vice-chairman of the Security Council of Russia, recently referred to the meaning of the war victory day.

He said that the day of war victory is an important national holiday of Russia and the “Eternal Flame” is a sacred symbol meaning that heroes of the Great Patriotic War live in the minds of the people forever.

Whenever they greet the day of war victory every year, the Russian people visit the monument to the heroes and the “Eternal Flame”, he said, noting that it is an expression of thanks to the heroes who kicked out fascism and defended the country in the hard time and protected the right to enjoy a happy, peaceful and independent life for the younger generation.

It is a moral duty for all Russian citizens to remember heroes, console war veterans and help their families, not on occasion but constantly, he added.
