Superior strains of crops cultivated
May 22, 2026North Hwanghae Province is striving to cultivate superior strains of crops at raw materials bases for the development of regional industry.
The province is putting efforts into building raw materials bases in cities and counties under a far-reaching plan in line with the physiographical and economic conditions of the regions. Here, the main stress is put on the cultivation of new strains of crops with high economic value.
Drawing on the experience of Unpha County which made progress in solving the problem of raw materials for sugar by extensively planting sweet potatoes last year, the province ensured that other cities and counties cultivated high-yielding sweet potatoes.
It is encouraging cities and counties to grow good strains of sugar and oil crops that suit their regional characteristics this year, while generalizing the experience of Yonthan County which raised the per-hectare yield of sugar beet.
As a result, the efforts for creating raw materials bases in a profitable way, such as planting superior strains of oil and sugar crops in large areas and planting Evodia daniellii forests, are being pushed ahead in a planned way throughout the province.
Kumya County of South Hamgyong Province created forests of good strains of Evodia daniellii on a large scale to supply the modern regional-industry factories with much more raw materials, which has turned out to be highly beneficial.
Sunchon City of South Phyongan Province directed effort to securing seeds of oil crops needed for the normal production of the regional-industry factories. It has made a great success by ensuring that factories and enterprises and rural villages in the city cultivated oil crops, while giving wide publicity to the oil crop cultivation methods and experience and their economic benefits.
