Over the past five years, remarkable achievements have been made for the promotion of the people’s well-being and realization of their ideals, a proud fruition of the people-first policy pursued by the Workers’ Party of Korea.

New policies and decisions were adopted at several Party meetings during its eighth term to provide the people with a happy life.

The WPK, which adopted it as its long-cherished desire to resolve the housing problem for the people, set it as an important goal at its Eighth Congress to build 50 000 flats in Pyongyang in the five-year plan period and the Second Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK decided to build 10 000 flats in Pyongyang every year.

Housing construction was forcefully pushed ahead as the most important task, and modern new streets including Songhwa and Hwasong were built every year.

The Third Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK adopted the childcare policy to supply the children throughout the country with nutritional foods including dairy produce at state expense.

As this policy was taken at the time when the country was experiencing great difficulties owing to the worldwide public health crisis, it touched the heartstrings of all people.

The Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK put forward the supply of school uniforms and things to the students throughout the country as a consistent policy of the Party and government; the Eighth Plenary Meeting discussed it as an independent agenda item to reform the country’s educational structure for an advanced education and take radical measures for decisively improving and strengthening education; the Ninth Plenary Meeting discussed as an important agenda item the task of displaying a high sense of responsibility in implementing the socialist policies for schoolchildren.

Drastic changes also took place in the appearance of the regions.

It is the plan of the WPK in the new era to make Pyongyang be envious of the regions, the development of the regions feature the state’s advance and development and the ideal appearance of the regions represent the genuine looks of Korean-style socialism.

The Fourth Plenary Meeting put forward it as a priority task in socialist rural construction to decisively transform the looks and environment of the rural communities, and the 19th Enlarged Meeting of the Political Bureau of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK adopted a decision on forcefully pushing ahead with the Regional Development 20×10 Policy of the Party. 

The major meetings of the WPK, held during its eighth term, brought about changes in the people’s living and the people’s dreams and ideals became greater.

The meetings were starting points of the changes and a leap forward, and they served as occasions for further deepening the people’s trust in the Party.
