Japanese say no to authorities’ lifting of arms embargo
May 23, 2026Many Japanese express strong discontent with the authorities’ decision on lifting the arms embargo.
According to an opinion poll conducted by the Kyodo News Service on May 17, 57.2% of the respondents clarified their stand against the authorities’ measure.
An earlier poll by NHK also showed that the majority of the respondents said no to it.
Foreign media outlets said that such a move pushed ahead by the Takaichi government to realize the wild ambition for reinvasion has sparked serious concern and strong denunciation at home and abroad.
