Shoigu decries NATO’s military threat
June 1, 2026Sergey Shoigu, secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, denounced NATO’s military threat at a meeting of the secretary general committee of the security council of member states of the collective security treaty organization on May 26.
New challenges and threats have come into being in the area under the organization’s control, he said, adding that it is a fact without any exaggeration that military exercises under way in Europe are aimed at Russia and Belarus.
The major threat to the organization has come from NATO which is gripped by a frenzy of revanchism and militarism and the countries of “civilized Europe” belonging to the bloc, he stressed.
Russia is taking measures to minimize the danger of NATO’s active military moves, he said, adding that both the successful test of the intercontinental ballistic missile Sarmat and the drill for use of nuclear forces done recently would quell the bravado of Western strategists and make them think about the possible aftereffects of their adventurous Russia policy in a hard-headed way.
