Russian FM decries moves of US and Japan to escalate tension
June 3, 2026Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, censured the US and Japan for their moves to escalate tension in the Asia-Pacific region at a press conference on May 28.
She branded and condemned the US-Japan joint military exercises expected to deploy an intermediate-range missile system in Japan as an act of exerting a serious negative impact on the stability and security in the Asia-Pacific region and posing a direct threat to the Far Eastern borders of Russia.
Russia would thoroughly analyse strategic danger caused by such provocation and prepare military and technical countermeasures assuming the stoutest and long-term character, she noted.
