Fish farming in paddy fields introduced in wider areas
June 15, 2026Rural communities in different parts of the DPRK are pushing ahead with the extensive introduction of fish farming in paddy fields whose advantages were proved in last year’s farming.
South Hwanghae Province set a goal of applying it to hundreds of hectares of paddy fields this year.
The provincial rural economy committee is intensifying guidance so that farms in its cities and counties can release fries in a scientific and technological way and in the right time, while paying primary attention to the production of fries and securing of feed.
Sinchon, Paechon, Yonan and Chongdan counties and other rural areas in the province selected paddy fields favourable for fish farming, secured enough amounts of fries, chose suitable rice varieties and grew rice seedlings in a sci-tech way in order to start fish farming in paddy fields at the right time.
In close contact with specialized fish farms, North Hwanghae Province arranged demonstrations and passing-on-technique sessions for solving the problems arising in the production of fries, feed supply and raising of their survival rate and has widely generalized the successes and experience of advanced units.
It has pushed ahead in a planned way with many projects including the dissemination of sci-tech information about the proper density of fish per cubic metre of water, selection of appropriate rice varieties and scientific water control methods and the improvement of the technical knowledge and skills of agricultural workers.
Farms in Jungsan County of South Phyongan Province are positively introducing the good methods developed by those units that made successes in such fish farming in the past.
North Phyongan Province is stepping up the production of fries after completing the realignment of hundreds of hectares of paddies for fish farming.
It has built or rebuilt pedigree fish farms in many areas in line with their specific conditions in a short period of time. It is now encouraging the dissemination of sci-tech information and the generalization of experience through passing-on-technique sessions and demonstrations.
It also keeps close contact with research units in the fish farming sector and leading pedigree fish farms in the country to secure a large quantity of superior fish breeds and introduce advanced breeding methods, thereby laying a solid foundation for remarkably increasing the production of fries.
