French president opposes US’ threat to levy tariffs
June 19, 2026French President Macron resisted the US’ threat to levy tariffs in a television interview on June 15.
The US chief executive threatened to levy a 100 percent tariff on French wines and champagnes unless France repeals the digital service tax on the US technical companies. In connection with this, the French president said that his country will not step back.
The digital service tax is what the Europeans decided and the US cannot change the content decided by the European or French law, he stressed.
