Chinese Defence Ministry decries Japan’s remilitarization
June 20, 2026A spokesman for the Defence Ministry of China criticized Japan’s moves for remilitarization at a press conference on June 16.
In the draft “defence white paper” for 2026 made public to the press, the Japanese authorities rated China as the “unprecedented, greatest strategic challenge” and noted the need to cope with it with overall national power. In this regard, the spokesman said that Japan is inciting confrontation and security concerns, repeatedly playing up the “military threat from China”.
It is aimed at making an excuse for alleviating military restrictions, expanding armaments and increasing armed forces, he said, adding the one vociferating about “threat” is, in fact, the one who creates real threat.
Saying that Japan, which is accelerating remilitarization, has become a “powder keg” in the Asia-Pacific region, he stressed that the peace-loving people should heighten their vigilance against Japan’s “neo-militaristic” racket and resolutely deter it.
