June 27, 2026

Gift animals are increasing in number at the Central Zoo.

President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un sent a lot of gift animals to the zoo.

Between January 6 this year, when a hamadryas baboon (descendant) gave birth to a young, and May, 20 kinds of gift animals brought forth over 40 young.

On January 8 an Asiatic black bear (descendant) gave birth to a cub, which weighed 500g. It now weighs 9kg.

The zoo has worked to preserve and breed gift animals.

The breeders in charge of gift animals breed the animals in a scientific way from their mating seasons to pregnancies and pay special attention to ensuring the living environment of the young and their mothers, thus raising the survival rates of the young.

On the basis of a good understanding of the animals’ ecological features and ways of life, the zoo has conducted research to adapt them to its conditions and environment and raise the breeding rate to achieve relevant successes.

The zoo has sent rare animals to other zoos in different parts of the country to contribute to the leisure activities of the people.
