ASEAN future forum lays emphasis on cooperation, exchanges
June 27, 2026Developing countries are intensifying efforts to achieve common prosperity and development by their concerted efforts.
The third ASEAN future forum took place in Vietnam early in June. Attended by the party and state leadership of Vietnam, senior leaders of several member states of ASEAN and relevant officials of international organizations, research institutes, businesses and local governments, the forum featured a plenary meeting and panel discussions on such themes as self-development and unity of ASEAN, prevention of disputes within ASEAN, application of artificial intelligence and energy security.
At the opening ceremony, the Lao prime minister said that energy security and food supply security are important in the volatile international situation, stressing the need to introduce digital and AI technologies into agriculture to ensure food security of the future so as to bolster the overall forces of ASEAN.
The Cambodian prime minister said that the success of ASEAN should be judged not merely by GDP, trade volume and investment inflow but by the quality of people’s life, referring to the success made by ASEAN over the past decades. He proposed expanding the youth and academic exchanges, cultural cooperation and economic exchanges in the future.
During the forum, cooperation and exchanges were actively promoted among different countries.
The visits to Vietnam by the prime ministers of different countries to attend the forum made a substantial contribution to prioritizing the relations between neighbouring countries and member states of ASEAN, intensifying and developing the relations with different countries and building a developed ASEAN community.
At a meeting with the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam who is president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Lao prime minister congratulated him on Vietnam’s successful hosting of the 3rd ASEAN future forum and notified him of the present situation of the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, stressing the need to cooperate more closely to put into practice the results of the 48th meeting of the inter-governmental joint committee.
The Cambodian prime minister who met the Vietnamese party and state leader congratulated him on the hosting of the forum under the unstable and volatile world situation and agreed to make sustained efforts to further expand and boost exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the future.
At the forum, the Cambodian prime minister said that his country attaches great importance to the relations with Thailand, adding that it is essential for Thailand, as a close neighbouring country with the shared responsibility for peace, prosperity and regional stability, to strictly observe international law, existing treaties and the principle of sincerity and mutual respect in order to restore the trust between the two countries and ensure lasting peace.
