Bumper harvest of wheat and barley reaped

July 4, 2026

The harvest of wheat and barley is now in full swing in rural areas.

“Despite a long spell of drought since spring this year, a bumper crop has been raised in all fields,” said Ri Yong Chol, section chief of the Agricultural Commission.

As the precipitation was very low in the country and some areas had no rain at all this year, the amount of water in reservoirs and rivers has decreased considerably.

These circumstances could have hindered the growth of wheat and barley planted as earlier crops.

According to Ri, if the earlier crops of wheat and barley are affected by droughts, the proportion of productive tillers decreases to reduce the number of ears and grains per ear, exerting great influence on the yield.

Agricultural workers across the country turned out in the effort for minimizing drought damage.

They increased the capacity of subsidiary sources of water supply, including irrigation systems, wells and pools, and concentrated efforts and means on watering wheat and barley fields affected by droughts.

They made sure that wheat and barley fields were wet enough by operating water transport means and pumping equipment at full capacity and applying several watering methods that suit their regional features, such as the sprinkler-based irrigation method.

They also promoted the growth of wheat and barley by using various growth stimulants and bioactive agents.

As a result, a gratifying scene of bumper crops of wheat and barley has unfolded in the fields which overcame drought.

According to data available, large areas of wheat and barley fields are being harvested every day across the country, and a much higher yield has been recorded than in the same period of last year.
