Growing distrust of US, NATO
July 4, 2026Distrust of the US and NATO is growing among the Turks.
According to a public opinion poll conducted in May, the proportion of respondents who claimed that NATO was not helpful at all reached 43.9 percent and many respondents said that NATO is causing damage to Türkiye.
A professor of a university in Ankara stressed that Turkish people regard NATO in the same light with the US and that distrust of NATO is strongly related to the anti-US sentiment.
Many residents said they don’t believe that NATO would help if their country was faced with a crisis.
