President Kim Il Sung led the revolution and construction under the uplifted banner of independence.

He proved through the revolutionary practice that independence represents the justice of history, the victory of the revolution and the basis of the development of fair international relations and led the current of history in the 20th century to independence.

When he met the editor-in-chief of the Peruvian newspaper Expreso and his wife on their visit to the DPRK in June 1974, the President explained the educational policy and socialist construction of the country to them. And he said: You were the first to put forward the claim to 200n·mile territorial waters, and by doing so you held up the banner of independence. This is a very justifiable policy. This policy contributes greatly to the protection of domestic resources and defence of national independence.

He added that everything in Peru should not be handled in a foreign style, but in a Peruvian way, the Peruvian people are now engaged in a Peruvian-style revolution, and this is really splendid. 

It was a precious instruction that one should do everything in conformity with the actual conditions and interests of his own country and build a new society by his own efforts, not by relying on others.

After he returned home, the editor-in-chief published the talk with the President in its entirety in his newspaper, and newspapers of the countries in Latin America and other regions simultaneously carried its contents.

The President made sure that all countries and nations aspiring after independence advanced under the uplifted banner of independence against imperialism.

The Non-Aligned Movement, which newly emerged in the arena of history on the occasion of the First Summit Conference of Non-Aligned Countries held in former Yugoslavia in September 1961, suffered trials from the beginning. It was due to the imperialists’ undisguised military threats and blackmail and armed intervention aimed at disintegrating and weakening the movement.

With a deep insight into the situation, the President authored many works, including “The Non-Aligned Movement Is a Mighty Anti-imperialist Revolutionary Force of Our Times” and “For the Development of the Non-Aligned Movement”, to ensure that the movement adhered to its ideal and principle and continued to strengthen its power.

He met leaders of many countries in the world to point out the issues which should be regarded as guidelines in holding fast to the ideal and principle of the movement and safeguarding its purity, and conducted energetic activities to strengthen unity and solidarity among the non-aligned and developing countries.

And in the early 1990s when the world socialist movement underwent ordeals, the President met delegations and leaders of political parties and social organizations of different countries and explained the main cause of the collapse of socialism in some countries and the experience gained in building socialism in the DPRK based on the Juche Idea, clarifying the invincibility of socialism.

He also put forward the ideas on uniting all the people on the earth aspiring after peace and progress into a joint front and achieving peace by struggle, not by begging, and fighting against the imperialists to the end without any concession and other ideas and theories, thus illuminating the correct path for ensuring global peace and security and for achieving the cause of independence of the masses.

President Kim Il Sung, who performed immortal exploits for the building of a new independent world and global peace, still lives in the minds of mankind.
