The stratum consists of the layers of yellowish green siltstone and marl of the seson series in the Lower Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic age.
Also unearthed on the layer were fossils of shellfish, snails, insects and Ortracoda.
The fossil bed is 4m wide and 30m long.
Onsongia is 27cm long and about 15.5cm high.
It has a round head and thin teeth in the mouth.
Its spine has a row of 38 to 42 bones down the back.
It has 11-12 dorsal and caudal fin rays and 8-9 ventral fin rays. It is covered with relatively large round scales on the surface.
A rare specimen in the world which was discovered for the first time in the country, fossil Onsongia is of great significance in the study of the evolution and development of vertebrates, especially fish.
