President Xi calls for thoroughly preventing labour accidents
July 14, 2026Chinese President Xi Jinping recently issued an important directive to thoroughly prevent accidents related to work safety.
As regards the fact that a fire at a footwear factory in Fujian Province caused casualties, he called for concentrating all efforts on searching for and rescuing victims and stabilizing their life, investigating the cause of the accident quickly and calling those responsible for it to account according to law.
As several serious accidents related to work safety have occurred in the country this year, all regions and relevant sectors should draw a serious lesson from them and find out and eliminate all sorts of risk elements so as to thoroughly prevent the occurrence of serious and shocking accidents and ensure the safety of the people’s lives and property, he emphasized.
The fire that occurred at the footwear factory in Fujian Province on July 9 claimed 28 lives.
A guidance group for dealing with the accident comprising working teams responsible for on-the-spot relief, accident investigation and others was organized.
