China rejects NATO chief’s remarks

July 16, 2026

A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry denounced the reckless remarks made by NATO secretary general who found fault with China’s activities in the North Pole at a recent press conference.

As regards the fact that the NATO chief clamoured for the necessity to keep Russia and China from expanding their influence on the North Pole, the spokesman asserted that China’s activities aimed at promoting peace, stability and sustainable development in the region conform to international law.

The rights and freedom of every nation related to the activities conducted in the North Pole in conformity with law should be fully respected, he said, stressing that China resolutely opposes the acts of inciting tension and confrontation in the North Pole while clamouring against “threat from China”.
