President Xi issues directive in connection with damage by landslide
July 22, 2026Chinese President Xi Jinping issued an important directive as regards the fact that a landslide in Chongqing caused loss of lives on July 17.
Calling for organizing search and rescue in a scientific way, preventing the occurrence of the second disaster and treating the injured well in a proper way, he pointed to the need to make clear the cause and find out and remove dangerous elements like geological disasters.
He stressed the need for every region and relevant sectors to thoroughly fulfil their responsibility in security, intensify observation, early warning and inspection and perfectly ensure the safety of lives and property of the masses of the people.
That day, a landslide suddenly occurred in a county of the city killing eight persons, injuring ten and leaving 34 missing.
