Thirteen years have already passed since the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery was completed.

The cemetery is a place where the remains of the martyrs of the Korean People's Army who performed heroic feats in defending the country are buried.

The cemetery consists of a monument inscribed with part of the speech delivered by President Kim Il Sung, a gatepost, a tower in memory of the fallen soldiers of the Korean People’s Army, a wreath-laying stand Soul of Heroes, group sculptures, a monument inscribed with a poem dedicated to heroic soldiers and the graves of fallen soldiers.

The letters "Never give up even an inch of land!" and "For the country!" inscribed on the sculptures just reflect the KPA soldiers’ shouts of faith that resounded in every battlefield during the war.

The remains of the martyrs are buried in the order of date of their death.

Among the martyrs are Hero Jang Thae Hwa, who blocked the enemy pillbox with his chest to open up the route of charge for his unit on June 26 1950, the day after the outbreak of the Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953), Hero Ri Tae Hun, who sank many enemy ships and contributed to realizing the strategic intention of the Supreme Headquarters while containing for three days a large enemy force backed by a large number of warships and aircraft, Hero Kang Ho Yong, who died after rolling down into an enemy group with a hand grenade between his teeth, and Hero Han Kye Ryol, who died after shouting that the height of his country was his height.

The cemetery also has the grave of a hero who had not left even a single picture of his.

The remains of more martyrs have been buried in the cemetery for 13 years since its completion.

The respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un named the cemetery the "Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery" in order to convey forever the steadfast spirit of defending the country displayed by the heroic soldiers in the 1950s who bravely fought under the guidance of the President and their immortal feats and gave instructions on the construction of the cemetery.

In July 2025, when he visited the cemetery together with war veterans, the General Secretary said that though the looks of the fallen soldiers of the People’s Army carved on the gravestones are very ordinary, the immortal feats of the proud sons and daughters of our country, who defended their beloved country and the gains of the revolution at the cost of their lives and safeguarded the peace of mankind, are shining brilliantly from one century into the next along with the great world historic significance of July 27.

The cemetery is a monument to the times built thanks to the revolutionary comradeship and noble moral obligation of the General Secretary who puts forward the defenders of the country, who performed heroic feats in the struggle against the US imperialist aggressors under the leadership of the President, and makes their lives immortal.

Many service personnel, working people, youth and schoolchildren visit the cemetery on the occasion of the V-Day (July 27).
