A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry referred to the country’s policy on nuclear forces at a regular press conference on July 30.

He stressed that China pursues a policy of not using nuclear weapons first and has unconditionally committed itself not to using nuclear weapons against the countries and regions without nuclear weapons and threatening them with nuclear weapons.

China has consistently followed a self-defensive nuclear strategy, has maintained its nuclear forces at the lowest level necessary for national security and has not participated in any form of nuclear arms race, he noted.

He stated that the nuclear forces of China are an indispensable force in preventing a nuclear war and preserving global peace and security and global strategic stability.
