Many tourists visit every day the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area, built in Myongsasimni, a scenic spot on the east coast of the DPRK where sweet briers are in full bloom.

As soon as they take off their travelling attire, the tourists go first to the bathing beach licked by blue waves to cool themselves off in summer.

What catches the eyes are the people swimming in the rolling sea, women in lifebelts enjoying themselves in the waves, old persons waving their hands aboard sightseeing boats, young people skilfully water-skiing and other people rushing on motorcycles on the sandy beach.

People’s laughter resounds elsewhere in the tourist area stretching as far as the eye can see, including outdoor and indoor water parks, amusement arcades, cinemas, theatres, diverse restaurants which serve famous national and foreign dishes and various picturesque hotels.

The respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un put his heart and soul into turning this place, which boasted only red sweet briers, pine trees and the sound of waves though being known as a scenic spot from ancient time, into a distinctive and modern Korean-style coastal tourist town full of the people’s laughter.

The General Secretary, who had long thought of making the people of the country bounded by the sea benefit from sea-related civilization, visited the relevant construction site three times in 2018 alone.

After May, he visited the construction site in August, when an unprecedentedly high temperature was recorded, to give instructions to artistically refine the architectural formation of the overall street of the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area while standing on the sandy beach heated by the burning sun. During his inspection of the construction site in October, he said that he was heartened and so pleased when he pictured the people leading a highly civilized and happy life there.

In April 2019 when the cold and chilly sea wind was blowing, he visited the construction site to give detailed instructions to properly build promenades, tramlines and bicycle paths for the convenience of the users, make and send many battery cars and install outdoor clocks in buildings and other places so that the people would be able to know the time while bathing in the sea.

In order to bring earlier the future of the country resounding endlessly with the people's happy laughter, he convened a consultative meeting in a tent on the spot in July 2024 to give detailed instructions on the issues arising in building the tourist resort as a monumental edifice of eternal value for the people.

When the tourist resort was completed on the Kalma peninsula, he attended the inauguration ceremony. Feasting his eyes over the beautiful bird’s-eye view of the coastal tourist town, he said with great satisfaction that what he most wanted to do for the people and something to which the Party devoted a great deal of effort for a long time with cherished desire was translated into a brilliant reality.

Though he turned the Kalma peninsula into a civilized cultural recreation ground for the people, he visited the tourist area again in June this year to give field guidance at the newly-built facilities.

The tourist area keeps resounding with the happy laughter of the people thanks to the devoted efforts of the respected General Secretary for the people.
