Xinhua denounces Japan’s ambition for nukes

August 13, 2026

China's Xinhua News Agency condemned the Japanese defense minister for recently insisting that Japan should not hesitate to discuss its nuclear weapons policy.

The extremely rare, provocative and dangerous remarks of the Japanese defense minister clearly revealed the frantic ambition of the present Japanese authorities to nullify the “three non-nuclear principles” and challenge the postwar international order, the agency said.

Japan’s ever-growing nuclear ambition is a dangerous sign that wicked neo-militarism has emerged and is accumulating strength in the country and posing a great threat to lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond, it noted.

But no force can block the advance of history, it said, warning that if the Japanese authorities do not sincerely reflect on the crimes of aggression and part entirely from militarism while turning their eyes away from the situation, they will eventually have to pay dearly for it.

It called on all peace-loving countries and people to be vigilant and united to foil any attempt to revive Japanese militarism, preserve the fruits of the victory in the Second World War and defend the hard-won international peace and security.
