In accordance with the regional development policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea, regional-industry factories were built in 40 cities and counties in the past two years and they produce many kinds of foodstuffs and consumer goods whose quality is as high as those made by centrally-run factories, contributing to the improvement of the living standard of the regional people.

This year, the third year of implementing the regional development policy, public health facilities and leisure complexes will be built together with regional-industry factories in another 20 cities and counties of the country.

The DPRK regards it as the fundamental principle of state building and activities to steadily improve the people’s living standards, and the WPK’s basic political mode is people-first politics.

In fact, in any country and from the historical viewpoint the backwardness of the provinces compared to the capital has been an inevitable convention.

However, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un launched a great revolution to provide the local people, who make up the overwhelming majority of the country’s population, with a sustainably improving material and cultural life.

In his policy speech at the Tenth Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly in January 2024, he put forward the Regional Development 20×10 Policy which calls for building modern regional-industry factories in 20 cities and counties every year and thus raising the material and cultural standard of living of the people across the country a level higher in the coming 10 years.

The new regional development policy is really a huge and uphill task. But he, who gives top priority to the demands and interests of the people and regards them as absolute, made a bold decision to usher in a new era of regional development, saying that if it is the wish of the people, even a star in the sky should be plucked.

As a result, the 19th Enlarged Meeting of the Political Bureau of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK held in January 2024 discussed the issue of dynamically pushing ahead with the regional development policy as the main agenda item.

Later, the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK held in December 2024 discussed and decided on the issue of formally including in the Party’s new regional development policy the additional construction of advanced public health facilities, scientific, educational, cultural and leisure facilities and grain storage facilities in parallel with regional-industry factories.

He learned about many problems related to the implementation of the regional development policy, including the selection of the sites for the construction of regional-industry factories and the designing of artist’s impressions of structures of various styles according to the regional features and rational technical processes, and guided the work, saying it is the kernel of the new regional development policy that everyone who was born in this country should equally lead a rich and civilized life under the socialist policies of the state, whether they live in the capital or the provinces, in towns or mountain villages, and the Party will make sure that they would do.

He visited the mountainous, plain and coastal areas to explore the development potentials of cities and counties and gave meticulous guidance on the design of industrial establishments and the direction of the development of aquaculture. His journey of devotion continued to every nook and cranny of the country.

And he attended the inauguration ceremonies, cutting the ribbons to inaugurate new structures and giving warm blessings to the regional people who would enjoy a new life and new civilization.

Thanks to the long journey of his devoted service for the people, a society where everyone is equally well-off, a socialist paradise full of the people’s laughter, is being created on this land.
